All About Wild Cats

PICTURE ON RIGHT IS A PICTURE OF BABY SAND CATS---------------------->

There are lots of facts on wild cats, but we thought the following list is some of the best ones.

~There is a species of cat actually smaller than the average house cat. It is called the Black-Footed cat, and is native to Africa.

~Cheetah's can chirp! They make a sound very similar to a bird's chirp. It is so loud, it can be heard from over a mile away!

~The Cheetah is the only cat in the world that can't retract its claws.

~Some lions mate over 50 times per day!

~Tigers have striped skin, not only striped fur.

~Female lions are more effiecient hunters than males.

~IN EUROPE, BY 2050, THERE WILL BE ONLY 5 TIGERS LEFT!

Now that you know a little bit more about wild cats, we can start to tell you a little bit more about them, their environment, and how you can help them survive for many more years to come.

WHAT IS REALLY HAPPENING TO CATS?

There are so many breeds of cats - both domestic and wild. Wild cats are going to be extinct quicker than we will expect! That is, IF we don't help them...

DOMESTIC CATS:

Domestic cats are the cats most people have in their houses. You most likely feed them, water them, and pet them. Domestic cats are sometimes abused by the owner for sometimes even no apparent reason. (Go to SPCA.com for more information.)But, these cats can be quite helpful. There have been many heroic stories that cats have been part of. For example-someone named Mona was sleeping when a fire blazed in her apartment. Her cat Beau threw himself against her door, until Mona woke up, and they both escaped the building. This cat was very brave. But let's get to the main point of this blog.

WILD CATS:

Wild cats are slowly becoming more endangered. When some people think of wild cats, you may think of a domestic cat, but wild cats are really lions, tigers, bobcats, leopards, cheetahs, etc. These cats are sometimes illegally hunted for their pelt, teeth, meat, or bones. Many people are not aware of this. If this behavior continues, we may never see a lion or tiger in the future ever again.

WAYS THAT MANY PEOPLE ARE HELPING WILD CATS ALREADY:
One of the most effective ways people help cats today is "sponsoring a cat." You sponsor them through a legitamate organization. That can help the captive breeding programs, and then send more cats to the wild. International Society Endangered Cats (ISEC) donates 100% of the donations recieved to a facility that supports wild cats. Big Cat Rescue also has a cat sponsorship program that enables donors to purchase wild cat support packages online. The easiest website to go to and use was www.bigcatrescue.com. This website has many facts, "how you can help", a part mad specially for kids, slide shows, and so much more. Please go to this website. It will help you understand what the wild cats are going through.

Please help the cats! Domestic or wild, they still are cats, and they need your help!
